Obagi Blue Peel: Frequently Asked Questions
What is the Blue Peel?
The Obagi Blue Peel represents a breakthrough in skin rejuvenation. Using slow acting TCA, the Blue Peel enables the physician to control the peel process and its depth. The Blue Peel can restore tighter, smoother and younger-looking skin regardless of age, color or skin type, not only to the face but also to non-facial areas, restoring healthier and more beautiful skin.
What is involved in the procedure?
A mixture of trichloroacetic acid and blue base is applied to the skin in a series of layers. There is a mild to moderate burning sensation for a few minutes and some individuals may require some mild sedation for comfort. The skin will feel tight and a bluish tint will remain on your skin, which usually washes off in a couple of days.
How long is the recovery period?
There will be mild swelling and the face will begin peeling in a few days. The entire peel process takes between five and ten days, depending on the depth of the peel.
Do I have to stay home for that length of time?
No. You can resume most of your normal activities but you must avoid the sun and cannot cover or remove the peeling skin, so you may want to avoid being seen for several days.
What will my skin be like after the peel?
Your skin will look refreshed and may be slightly pink with a healthy glow. It will feel very smooth, pores will appear smaller and fine lines will be dramatically improved, while blotchy brown spots and irregular pigmentation will be gone.
Does the Blue Peel have to be repeated?
Blue Peels can be repeated every six to eight weeks and the results are cumulative.
How does the Blue Peel compare to microdermabrasion?
The Blue Peel achieves results faster than microdermabrasion and can be used for more advanced wrinkling and uneven pigmentation but there is some “down time”.
